  1. I went there in the 60s when it was something. You could buy great cakes to take away. None of these modern cakes that look the same but are just copies have no flavour. I’m sure the original owners would be shocked to what has become of their lovely tea rooms.

    1. Wendy, there was no better cake, food and service than the at Hopetoun Tearooms when it was run by Kelly!
I am wondering how you are stating that for example Apfelstrudel and let’s say strawberry cake look and taste the same?!

Be kind to yourself and don’t comment non-sense!

May be get a time machine and teleport yourself to the 60’s… 💐😘

  2. Anne Chowne we live in a changing world the space is too small for the amount of people who want to go there and modern kitchen facilities.
The owner did try to expand at the block years ago but it obviously didnt work out .
The food is delicious and people will go to the new buliding because of it’s reputation of quality .

    1. Anne, it is sad that after almost 130 years the Hopetoun Tea Rooms has departed from the Block Arcade, but as that door closed a bigger and better one has opened. Hopetoun’s future is looking bright. ♥️

        2. don’t always believe the media. There will always be conflicts between landlords and tenants.
From past experience l always follow old owners to new venues as l know l won’t be disappointed to be in this shop for 20 years says something. I have photos when my niece was 3 and now is 18.
Anyway wishing all the success to the relocation of the Hopetoun Tea Room business.

          1. equally I don’t know your connections to the tearooms, so do I believe you or the media or the owners of the Block Arcade.

          2. no connections at all just my favourite place to visit when l go to the city !
Enjoy your day Anne enough said.

        3. Anne Chowne, You don’t get it… The original is moving to Bourke Street.. The one is the Block arcade is trying to live on the reputation of the Hopetoun Tearooms… that’s why they have left the name at the front of the store.. You go spend your money with the pretenders… Enjoy….

          1. Kim Copley Thank you. Just to be clear, the one that is in the Block Arcade is being run by the landlord and owners of the Block Arcade. I will categorically stand behind, what I say here, and they the Block Arcade, are thieves, and corrupt and are now pretending that nothing has happened. I will stop at nothing to expose what they have done to me, my family, my iconic business and my staff. I have the evidence and it is being investigated as we speak. The Block Arcade are not just pretenders – they are THIEVES and CORRUPT. I standby with my hand to my heart and will not be intimidated. More to come.. See the lengths they will go to – http://www.thereviewpanel.com/breakingnews

      1. No need to explain.. I have read into all of this… I have wondered why they have not been made to remove the name that is at the front window… Cleary theft… I have walked past your new location so many times wondering when you will be reopening… so looking forward to it… Good luck in your new place.. I can hardly wait…

        1. Your wonder as to why the name has not been removed, is because the CORRUPT landlord believes that the name on the front of the tenancy, is of Heritage importance, and part of the fabric of the Block Arcade.
They have noted in the media that Heritage Victoria supports the same.
Heritage Victoria, have noted that a Permit needs to be signed by the owner of the Arcade in order to have the name removed.
The Block Arcade “CORRUPT” have conveniently refused all such requests to sign.
I have personally written to HV and they have refused to reply as to how is it, that since the CORRUPT landlord has taken over the Block Arcade, that 43 retailers have left the Block Arcade (listing all of the retailers and providing all of their actual photos of their business names on the tenancies) that none of these were deemed as part of the Block Arcade fabric. (still waiting for a response) – I will share actual letter soon.

            1. It’s OK, all parties involved will soon be served with a reality check, as to what they did to me, to defraud me of my business and my tireless 10 years of work – I have not finished yet..

    2. Hopetoun Tea Rooms – I honestly wish you well and will support you when you open the new and improved HOPETOUN TEAROOMS in Bourke St…. I just wish you had taken the 2 little people sipping tea in the front window…😉

      1. That was another issue, again the landlord had signed an agreement with the ArtCompany that made the “elderly couple sipping tea” & that the Block Arcade will own the item in the window, – it was all part of the plan to take-over the business – and now I am going to “OUT” him and his family. I will not STOP!!

  3. I thought I read quite a while ago there was to be a Hopetoun Tea Room and a Hopetoun Cafe which is to be in Bourke Street owned by different owners..how many Hopetoun are there going to be and will it be held by the Block Arcade owners of the Hopetoun Tearooms or someone different
