  2. With landlords like this, people should boycott the imitation Tea Rooms and cease to attend. I have told all of my friends and family of this, as we never understood what happened to the Hopetoun rooms. Many people had commented that it had changed name etc. But it now all makes sense that this has been a takeover by a greedy and non understanding landlord.

All stay away from the Tea Rooms at the Block Arcade – they do not deserve your business.

  3. I will never visit the Block Arcade, after reading this site. Cannot wait for the re-opening of the Original Hopetoun Tea Rooms at the Bourke Street Location at the ex-Kozminsky – where at the moment it is adorned with the Hopetoun Tea Rooms advertising. This is the new location.

    1. it will never be the same no matter where they move. My memories were made in the Block Arcade, not Bourke St. Why all this nonsense.??? 🤦‍♀️

      1. Because the Block Arcade owners threw out the previous owners so that they can imitate a business of iconic status. The Block Arcade owners are thieves, criminals and are now operating an imitation business hoping that the goodwill of the original Hopetoun Tea Rooms will remain. Is it nonsense or is it criminal?

  4. I can’t believe all that you have been through, it’s just horrendous.

I have been a regular customer to you over the years, taking my Mum to your beautiful high tea for her birthday each year. Also when I would catch up with my cousin in the city we would always come in for cake and coffee. Who could resist right?

Anyway I had heard over the radio that Hopetoun was no more and was absolutely devasted. After one of the lockdowns I went into the city and visited the Block arcade not for Hopetoun as I believed it to be no more but for Haighs chocolate (another favourite).

To my surprise while passing through I saw the cake display and the usual queue out the front of your store. I was confused but yet excited and approached a staff member.

I said that I had heard Hopetoun had closed down and was wondering what was going on as I missed the high teas. I was informed it was the same business just under a different name and to make a booking on the new names website.

I believed what she told me and later booked a high tea for me and a friend to celebrate being free from lockdown.

I had commented to my Mum and cousin while I enjoyed the high tea it wasn’t the same.

The glasses were much smaller for the drinks, my favourite roast beef sandwich was no more and the scones were under cooked.

Now I know what has happened it makes much more sense. I will never go there again and I will be spreading the word to my friends and family.

I can’t wait to go to your new location Hopetoun. You have my full support. Your business is amazing and I have so many fond memories eating your delicious treats.

    See you soon.

  5. There is only One Hopetoun tea rooms Im glad I know the truth I will be spread the truth every where. So sorry this happened to you

  6. Very sad, i shall read the true details as MSM is totally unreliable on every aspect of their reporting

All the best for your future it was a lovely tea room and will be sadly missed

  7. The building that the Hopetoun Tea Rooms is moving into, is a beautiful building. I used to work there as a jewellery maker – Kozminsky and I am so happy that the building is not being knocked down and made into another highrise. The Hopetoun tea rooms has definately found its home, after it has been evicted by the Block Arcade and its terrible actions. I am sure that the new location will be a success. It is sad, for Kelly to have found and come accross to such ‘evil’ landlords, however I am sure that they will resolve their differences

  8. Kelly, I am saddened to learn of the fate of the iconic business that was under your management and ownership. Based on the story and the events that have occurred, the landlord has an integrity issue to resolve. You have no doubt exposed them for what they have endured upon you and I feel you have opened up the floodgates for others to report their stories. I sincerely wish you the very best in whatever you decide to next venture into.

    D.Cosman ❤️❤️

  9. The Block Arcade landlord should be reported for such atrocious conduct to such an iconic establishment.
Kelly, was a very honorable lady and was more than suited to the role of being the custodian of the Hopetoun Tea Rooms est. 1892. The Block Arcade have lost an icon and no matter what attempts they try and make to rejuvenate what Kelly lost, they will fail. The word of what occured at the Block Arcade is now getting out and all the courage and strength to you Kelly.
