The Hopetoun Tearooms are a institution. Doesn’t anyone care about our country’s history and heritage any more.
A lot more could be done to help preserve these iconic sites.
Shame on the Melbourne City Council, National Trust and State government.
More interested in creating bike tracks etc
– should be putting more effort into taking care of irreplaceable historical sites that make up the fabric of our city.
Absolutely saddened it’s going, when my late Army Helicopter Pilot Hubby was on leave, he would always take me there…it was our special romantic place…no blaring noise & the perfect setting

I have wondered who is the “Silent Person’s” behind what has been done to the Hopetoun Tea Rooms. Because a lot of nostalgic small business’s in the old arcades have had the same done to them. Last I heard a well known Saudi group were involved… not sure if it’s true.. maybe the money trail would expose who they are.. plus who would have a vested interest ($$$) to support them.
